VACATION BOARDING

Take a Guilt-Free Vacation While Your Pup Does Too

All boarding is in a home setting—not a kennel—for taking care of your dog while you’re away. Home boarding is an excellent alternative to a kennel facility, as it provides a much more cozy, familiar, fun environment for your dog. My yard includes a 4,000 square foot play area, so they get plenty of exercise and playtime. Boarding includes attendance in Puppy Play School (socialization play groups), should the boarding dates cross over and should your dog be a good fit.

“I honestly think that Gigi had a better vacation with Jenny than we did in Hawaii! She pampered and took care of Gigi as if she were her own.
I highly recommend using her services!”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I try to keep the dogs’ environment as similar to that of your home as possible, for the comfort of your dog. During the day they are members of the family, moving freely throughout the house & playing in the yard. Dogs are crated in a bedroom when I’m working with a client. At night they sleep on dog beds in the house, or on mine with me!

  • Because I train in my own home and in areas close by, I'm home a lot and typically not gone for longer than 2-4 hours at a time. Your dog will have tons of play breaks and potty breaks throughout the day.

  • Please bring your dog’s leash and collar, food, any medication with written instructions, and chews for crate time. I have dog beds, crates of all sizes, and food & water bowls, including a slow feeder when needed. Bringing toys is optional; there are plenty here!

  • Yes, proof of current vaccinations is required at the time of booking.

  • Yes! Clients wanting some training for their dog while they are on vacation often choose to do a Board & Train program during that time instead of simply Vacation Boarding, as it’s a cost effective way to get results when they are gone anyway. (Adding the training is not required.) Click here to learn more about Board & Train programs. Either way, the rules you have for your dog at home will be maintained while he is here.

BOARD & TRAIN

Leave the training to a professional

Your dog lives with me as a member of the family and trains daily in a household setting to get a solid foundation in obedience, manners, and socialization. This method gets the fastest results because the dog is receiving intensive, focused training every day from a professional trainer, in a similar context to which they’ll go home.

“I cannot believe the transformation my dog (yellow lab) has made since she went to Jenny’s for training. He’s like a whole different dog. He went in for a round of obedience, and he seems to have really loved the training. He’s not a terror at home anymore, and my wife and I are actually enjoying him.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The number of weeks recommended depends on your goals for the dog, but 3 - 6 weeks is typical for a Board & Train program to create a foundation. Longer programs help to cement the results. Follow up handler training sessions are included, to demonstrate what progress has been made and give you tips on how to maintain the training.

  • You might have noticed that your dog “listens” best when you’re in the kitchen with a cookie. This is because you’ve probably practiced there most often! But for a dog to behave in all settings, he needs to practice in a variety of environments with a variety of distractions. Depending on your dog’s level, training will take place in the home, outside the home, in the neighborhood, and around town in busy and distracting places.

  • Yes! Actually, some of your included handler training sessions are scheduled while your dog is still here training. We’ll schedule these about once per week.

  • Yes! Many dog owners decide to schedule their dog’s training to coincide when they would need to board their dog anyway in their absence. It’s a cost-efficient way to combine both needs. Keep in mind – due to taking a limited number of dogs at a time, space does get booked up a few months in advance; further during holidays.

  • Actually, it’s more like summer camp! The term just comes from “room & board,” because your dog is living here during training. The advantage of training in a home setting is that your dog gets lots of love, snuggles, and play time between training sessions.

  • Many owners worry that their dog will only listen to the trainer and not to them when the dog comes home from training. It's true that the relationship the dog has with the trainer must be transferred to the owner, and the owner needs to learn the techniques for consistency.
For this reason, 1-on-1 handler coaching sessions are included in every Board & Train package.
